Alonso comeback continues with simulator session

17 Mar 2015

Fernando Alonso will take another step towards returning to the track on Wednesday when he tests in the McLaren simulator for the first time since crashing in Barcelona on February 22.

The Spaniard, who missed the first race of the season in Australia on doctors’ advice following a concussion, resumed fitness training last week with the aim of competing in the next round of the championship in Malaysia.

A tweet from McLaren confirmed the two-time world champion had returned to work at the team’s Woking base ahead of a possible comeback:

Kevin Magnussen stood in for Alonso in Australia, though the Dane failed to take the start after his car developed a power unit glitch on the way to the grid. Team mate Jenson Button, meanwhile, finished 11th, two laps down on race winner Lewis Hamilton.
