Paddock Postcard from Malaysia 19 Mar 2006
Michael Schumacher made one special fan more than welcome in Sepang yesterday. Nine year-old Sharath Suresh has been suffering from leukemia for two years, and fulfilled a long-held ambition to meet the seven-time world champion.
I hope to be like Michael one day. I am very happy to meet him, Sharath said after being allowed into the Ferrari garage to examine Schumachers racer in detail.
Sharath took away a signed photo as a memento of his trip, which was organised by Ferrari president Jean Todt and Sepang International Circuit (SIC) Chairman Datuk Mokhzani Mahathir.
Former Bond girl Michelle Yeoh Lam Jit was another of Todts guests, while legendary singer Lionel Richie performed at a private function for the first time ever while a guest of the SIC chairman earlier in the week. The Grammy award winner sat down at the piano and tickled the ivories as he gave a rendition of his hit Three Times A Lady.
