Paddock Postcard from Montreal 10 Jun 2007
Arguably the biggest motor racing icon in the Canadian pitlane this weekend has been 1972 and 74 Formula One world champion and IndyCar champ Emerson Fittipaldi. The Brazilian was joined by former Tyrrell and Williams driver Derek Daly (whose son Conor was racing in the Formula Ford support event) and former Onyx and Jordan racer Bertrand Gachot.
In old downtown Montreal the Musee Gilles Villeneuve from Berthierville brought along some exhibits for a Salut Gilles display in the 25th year of the great Canadian drivers death. These included three of his Formula Atlantic Marches, one of them the Trois Rivieres machine that really brought him to the attention of Europeans, and also the unloved Ferrari T5 with which, miraculously, he led the 1980 Brazilian Grand Prix.
And down at BMW Sauber, Swiss ice hockey star Mark Streit was a guest, representing the Montreal Canadians team.
