BAR request Michelin switch for 2004 11 Oct 2003

Formula One World Championship, Rd16, Japanese Grand Prix, Suzuka , Japan, 9 October 2003

Formula One tyre suppliers Michelin say they have received a request from British American Racing to supply the British-based team with its tyres for the 2004 season. BAR currently use Bridgestone rubber.

Michelin already supply Williams, McLaren, Renault, Jaguar and Toyota, but under the current Formula One regulations they must be prepared to equip up to 60 per cent of the grid.

"It is very satisfying for us to see that by asking to use our tyres in 2004, BAR is counting on us to help the team reach the objectives it has set itself for the coming season," said Michelin Managing Partner and CEO Edouard Michelin.

"This shows that the team shares the opinion widely held by many of the sport's specialists on the performance of Michelin tyres."

Michelin are now studying the resources needed to ensure an efficient collaboration between the French company and BAR.

Meanwhile, Bridgestone, whose contract with BAR runs to the end of 2004, say they are investigating the legal implications of the team's request.
