Raikkonen relishes a fight 05 Mar 2003

Kimi Raikkonen (FIN) McLaren Mercedes MP4/17 took a well deserved third place.
European Grand Prix, Nurburgring, Germany, 23 June 2002

Kimi Raikkonen says he likes nothing better than a close fight.

"It's good fun. Of course, if you have a bad day it's not so good, but if the car is working you can really enjoy it a lot. Still I like it if things do go wrong, but it's not so much fun. But I still enjoy the thrill of driving a car fast. If I didn't, I would give up and go do something else!

"The racing is still the nicest thing, and then the testing. That's different because it's more relaxed. You still enjoy getting a quick corner just right. It doesn't really matter what you are driving. A kart, a really bad old car; it's always fun. Unfortunately in Formula One you don't have so much racing. In Formula Renault, maybe...

"For me Formula Renault was quite nice, because I was winning all the time! But even it was good fun when you had a really hard race. It was a nice car to drive and a good class, and everybody had the same cars. So it's up to you. Was good fun.

"In Formula One you don't have many races where you really are fighting. But when you do get one, it's really good fun."
