Fisichella optimistic about new Jordan 05 Mar 2003
Despite his dreams of driving one day for Ferrari, Giancarlo Fisichella had nothing but praise for the new Jordan Ford EJ13 after initial testing with it in Spain.
The car is the work of the technical team led by technical director Henri Durand, chief designer John McQuilliam and aerodynamicist Nicolo Petrucci, in conjunction with race engineer Gary Anderson, and is a lighter and lower car than the Honda-powered EJ12 in which Fisichella was a frequent points finisher in 2002.
The car is powered by the 2002 Ford CR-4 V10 engine which produces 860 bhp, and its primary design aims were enhanced aerodynamics for greater grip, less sensitivity to pitch, and greater driver friendliness.
"I believe that the design team has achieved all three aims," Fisichella said. "After my first tests with the car I can already say that I love it and that it is a much better car than last year's. It is kinder to its tyres and it doesn't have the snap oversteer that could catch you out with the EJ12.
"I think this is the kind of car that will go well at most tracks, and it already has more power than we had last year. I'm really looking forward to surprising people with it. We are going to have a good season."
