Jordan to run third car at Hockenheim 29 Jul 2003
The Jordan team has confirmed that it will field three cars in Friday's private testing session at this weekend's German Grand Prix. Hungarian F3000 driver Zsolt Baumgartner will join Giancarlo Fisichella and Ralph Firman for the two-hour hour run at Hockenheim.
"It will be the first time we've run three cars in the test session and hopefully it will allow us to understand the tyre performance better over longer runs, something other teams with a third driver have benefited from already this season," explained Gary Anderson, Jordan's Director of Race and Test Engineering.
Baumgartner, who completed a demonstration run for Jordan in front of his home crowd at last year's Hungarian Grand Prix, was on track at Silverstone on Monday to carry out a 50 km shakedown run of the EJ13. With the summer testing ban in place it is the only taste he will get of the car ahead of his Grand Prix debut on Friday.
The young Hungarian is familiar with the revised Hockenheim circuit, having raced there in Formula 3000 last season. He will also participate in the Friday session of the Hungarian Grand Prix meeting on August 22.
Also on track at Silverstone on Monday was Justin Wilson, who declared himself comfortable in the Jaguar R4 after completing a first shakedown run in the car ahead of his race debut for the team this weekend.
