Barcelona Day One - Williams run solo 20 Jan 2004
Williams were the only runners at a chilly Circuit de Catalunya on Monday as this week's Barcelona test session got underway. Marc Gene set the pace, ahead of Ralf Schumacher, both men at the wheel of the new FW26.
Sub-zero temperatures meant the team made limited progress in the morning, before conditions improved in the afternoon. Schumacher spent the day shaking down a new FW26 chassis, working on set-up, traction control tests and some simulated race starts.
Gene, meanwhile, concentrated on tyre work with suppliers Michelin. The Spaniard hands over to Juan Pablo Montoya on Tuesday when the majority of the other Formula One teams are expected to join Williams in Barcelona.
Unofficial Monday times from Barcelona:
1. Marc Gene, Williams (Michelin), 1:15.931
2. Ralf Schumacher, Williams (Michelin), 1:16.171
