Renault uncovered, Ferrari named 20 Jan 2004

Jarno Trulli (ITA) runs the Renault R24 for the first time. Formula One Testing, Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain, 19-23 January 2004.

Renault's 2004 challenger, the R24, made its track debut at Barcelona on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, Ferrari's Sporting Director Jean Todt revealed that the world champions' new car, which will be launched in Maranello next Monday, is, internally at least, called the 655.

Renault will officially unveil the R24 in Sicily on January 29. However, Jarno Trulli gave the public its first glimpse of the new car, which features an unusual looking engine cover, when he took to the Circuit de Catalunya.

Ferrari have also promised something unexpected when the wraps come off their new car next week. After the excitement generated by the radical nose design of the Williams FW26, Todt said the Italian team's 2004 car also has 'a front wing that could surprise everyone'. Todt referred to the car as the 655, but it remains to seen if that will be its official title.
