Red Bull in no rush over driver decisions 15 Nov 2004

Tony Purnell, team principal of Red Bull Racing, has insisted the newly-named squad will take its time over 2005 driver selection.

As Jaguar Racing, the team’s 2004 line-up comprised Mark Webber, who has moved to Williams for next season, and Christian Klien, who has personal backing from Red Bull.

Speaking at a news conference, Purnell said that no decisions had yet been made. “We will be considering experienced drivers as well as some Red Bull Junior drivers,” he commented, referring to the Austrian company’s driver development programme.

“Over the coming weeks we’ll be testing a few fellows,” he added, refusing to say who they might be. It was revealed, however, that McLaren’s David Coulthard would be put on the list for consideration.

As well as Klien, another Red Bull-backed driver already being linked by the media to a possible drive is reigning Formula 3000 champion Vitantonio Liuzzi, who tested for Sauber earlier this year.
