Ferrari sign Gene for testing role
|
Marc Gene has joined Ferrari as the teams second test driver for the 2005 season. Gene, formerly with Williams, will work alongside Luca Badoer in a move that takes immediate effect.
Gene has spent the past four seasons with Williams, racing for them on three occasions. He replaced the injured Ralf Schumacher at Monza in 2003 and then again at this years French and British Grands Prix.
The Spaniards Formula One career dates back to 1999 when he made his Grand Prix debut with Minardi, where coincidentally Badoer was his team mate. He stayed with the squad until the end of 2000.
Genes move may yet result in a testing vacancy at Williams, where his former colleague Antonio Pizzonia is in the running for a race seat alongside Mark Webber. However, Williams are among the teams to have volunteered to dramatically cut testing next season.
