BAR's Jenson Button topped the times at Silverstone on Tuesday as the teams endured a mix of wet and dry conditions at the Northamptonshire circuit. Button, at the wheel of the team's black '04 concept car, completed just over 80 laps with a best of 1m 19.673s.

Renault completed their final pre-season test with Jarno Trulli and Fernando Alonso at work in the R24. Alonso's progress was limited by a minor crash, which damaged the front end of the car and the team chose to focus on pit-stop practice with both drivers.

"Today marked the final part of our on-track preparations before departing for Melbourne," said Pat Symonds, Renault's Executive Director of Engineering. "The full race crew were on hand to practice pit-stops with the new car, and we are looking forward to getting out to Melbourne and starting the season properly."

Jordan were the third and final team present. Giorgio Pantano failed to set a time after spinning off, leaving Nick Heidfeld as the team's sole representative on the timesheets. Testing continues at Silverstone on Wednesday.

Unofficial Tuesday times from Silverstone:
1. Jenson Button, BAR (Michelin), 1:19.673
2. Jarno Trulli, Renault (Michelin), 1:23.690
3. Nick Heidfeld, Jordan (Bridgestone), 1:23.971
