Fresh from his win in South Africa last weekend, reigning MotoGP motorcycle champion Valentino Rossi got his first taste of Formula One power on Wednesday when he tested with Ferrari at Fiorano.

“It was a very exciting day for me,” enthused Rossi, after completing a number of laps of the Italian circuit. “Driving an F1 car was an amazing experience and it was great for me to follow in Schumacher's footsteps for a day. I would like to thank Ferrari for having given me this opportunity."

Also at the track were Michael Schumacher and Luca Badoer, both there to carry out a shakedown of the F2004 cars Ferrari will use at this weekend’s San Marino Grand Prix. A total of 16 laps were completed, eight of them on the short version of the circuit. The best time on the day was a 58.433s.

At the end of the day, Schumacher and team mate Rubens Barrichello also did a few laps at the wheel of a Maserati MC12, which is undergoing a development test programme at the circuit this week.
