Day 2 - Sauber forced to finish early at Fiorano 29 Apr 2004
Sauber managed just half a day of running at Fiorano on Wednesday before an undisclosed technical problem forced the team to abandon their programme.
Giancarlo Fisichella put in 46 laps of the Italian circuit in the morning, setting a best time of 57.090s in the C23, an improvement of over half a second on his Tuesday mark.
"In the morning our programme started well off thanks to the same good weather conditions like yesterday, explained race engineer Giampaolo Dall'Ara. We were able to carry on with our aerodynamic assessments and ran some brake and Bridgestone tyre tests.
"Unfortunately around noon we experienced a mechanical problem which we couldn't solve at the track and were forced to finish our work for today. Because we didn't complete our programme we will have to try to catch up tomorrow when Felipe (Massa) will do some more Bridgestone tyre evaluation and the verification of the so far gathered data."
Conditions at Fiorano were fine and sunny, with track temperatures peaking at 33 degrees Celsius.
