Welcome to the United States Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the ninth round of the 2004 FIA Formula One World Championship and the half-way point of the season.

Despite the race’s new June date, the weather looks very changeable. Earlier this week, not far away in Zionsville to the north of the city, there were very heavy storms and flood warnings, and it rained heavily here yesterday too. It’s expected to be wet again here today with scattered thunderstorms predicted despite a temperature high of 27 degrees Celsius.

Friday should be better, with a slightly higher temperature and cloudy skies with only a small chance of rain, but the latter will be back sometime on Saturday, which is forecast to be a repeat of today. That could have a serious effect on qualifying, as each tyre manufacturer’s products have advantages that depend on the level of precipitation.

Raceday, however, is expected to be dry all the way through, with sun and a high of 27 degrees again.
