Toyota’s third driver, Ryan Briscoe, was taken to hospital for precautionary checks on Friday following his high-speed accident during second practice at Spa.

Briscoe lost control of his TF104 just 16 minutes into the afternoon session, hitting the barriers on both sides of the circuit on the approach to Eau Rouge after suffering a puncture. The Australian got out of the car unaided and gave a thumbs-up to the crowd.

“Ryan is fine following his accident,” reported Toyota’s Mike Gascoyne. “He was taken to hospital for a precautionary scan on his arm, but everything appears okay.

“We saw from the data once we got the car back that his car had picked up a tyre puncture, which caused him to spin. It was unfortunate because Ryan had been running particularly well and consistently throughout the day.”

Briscoe, who had completed nine laps in the session prior to his accident, finished 19th in the timesheets.
