Midland appoint management team 19 Jan 2005
Midland F1, the Russian-backed team who hope to join the Formula One grid in time for the 2006 season, have announced appointments for two key management positions. Dr Colin Kolles is to be managing director, while Christian Geistdoerfer has accepted the post of marketing director.
Prior to joining Midland, Dr Kolles was the driving force behind Kolles Racing and TME Racing, two successful contenders in the ultra-competitive Formula 3 Euro Series. Following a brilliant racing career that spanned 15 years and earned him two World Rally Championships (1980, 1982), Geistdoerfer went on to establish two international sports marketing agencies, Prodrive and P&W Consulting GmbH.
Of the appointments Alex Shnaider, co-founder and chairman of the Midland Group, said: Midland is very pleased to welcome Dr Colin Kolles and Christian Geistdoerfer to key positions in our organization. Both possess the expertise and character necessary to achieve success at the pinnacle of motorsport. We believe their leadership skills will be a perfect fit for a young team that strives for excellence in every aspect of its operation.
On his new position, Dr Kolles commented: Following our first meeting I immediately felt that we shared the same philosophies toward hard work, professionalism and commitment. I am well aware of the challenges involved in bringing a Formula 1 team to the grid and I would have never accepted Mr Shnaiders offer to run his team if I wasnt sure that we will be successful.
Joining Midland, Geistdoerfer declared: After 15 years of professional rally racing and yet another 15 years heading event management agencies in motorsport, I was ready for a new personal challenge. I am honoured by the trust that Mr Shnaider has placed in me and look forward to utilizing my expert knowledge for the benefit of Midland F1.
The appointments follow Decembers announcement that Midland have signed up Boris Yeltsin Junior, grandson of Russias first president, as their Russian marketing director.
