Renault have confirmed that Polish driver Robert Kubica will get his first Formula One test later this year as reward for winning the 2005 World Series by Renault title.

Kubica, 20, will get behind the wheel of the current Renault R25 at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya on December 2. He will be joined by Italian driver Giorgio Mondini, winner of the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup in 2004.

“This is a very important opportunity for me,” said Kubica. “It will be my first drive in a Formula One car and I hope it will be not the last! Of course this test comes as a prize for my title in the World Series by Renault, but I will be focusing on completing as many laps as possible.”

Regarding Kubica’s test, Renault Sport’s Head of Competition and Communications, Jean Paul Mari, commented: “Never before has a Polish driver reached quite such a high level in motorsport. Robert Kubica has showed impeccable consistency throughout the season and is already a legitimate contender for a Formula One drive”.

With four victories, 11 podiums and three pole positions to date, Kubica has dominated this year’s Renault World Series and recently wrapped up the championship with a race to spare at the penultimate round at Estoril in Portugal.
