Renault give Alonso title-winning R25 01 Dec 2005
World champion Fernando Alonso received an unexpected gift on Wednesday when Renault presented him with the R25 machine that took him to this seasons drivers championship.
Alonso was in Paris, along with team members, partners and Renault employees, for a special celebration of the teams double-title success in 2005. The evening included acrobatic displays, speeches and ended with Renault Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn handing over the R25 to a surprised Alonso.
"I saw a big box when I arrived this evening, but to have this car at home is really a dream come true!" said the Spaniard. "It is a fantastic present!"
Renault's celebrations naturally focused on 2005, but also highlighted their steady progress since their return to Formula One as a works manufacturer in 2002. From fourth place in the constructors' championship in their opening season, they moved up to third in 2004, before clinching their first title this year.
