Red Bull test for Jani and Speed 19 Mar 2005
Neel Jani and Scott Speed will have a one-off test with the Red Bull Racing team at Barcelona on March 24-25. The Swiss and American drivers, who are members of the Red Bull Junior team, are both competing in this year's new GP2 series.
The Red Bull Junior team is made up of 16 drivers racing in a variety of formulas, with Speed and Jani competing at the most senior level. All 16 drivers have been selected through the Red Bull Driver Search Programme, which scouts out young talent from around the globe.
"Having our own Formula One team now provides us with a logical pinnacle for our junior driver programme," said Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner.
"The Barcelona test is part of our development schedule. We will be using last year's car to carry out engine testing work, which does not need to involve our race drivers, so we decided to introduce Speed to Formula One, while Jani has already tested for Sauber-Petronas and Red Bull Racing last year. They will complete the two days in Barcelona between them."
"Last weekend, I got to test the GP2 car in Paul Ricard and it was great," commented Speed. "And now the Formula One car - there's nothing to top this."
"Of course, Formula One is the big goal for me and this test is one step further towards it," added Jani.
