Toyota drop San Marino appeal 29 Apr 2005
The Toyota team have decided not to pursue their appeal against the 25-second penalty added to Ralf Schumacher's race time in last Sunday's San Marino Grand Prix at Imola.
Schumacher dropped from 8th to 11th in the final classification as a result of the penalty, which was imposed by stewards after the Toyota pit crew released the German immediately in front of the Williams of Nick Heidfeld during a stop.
Toyota lodged an appeal on the evening of the race, but after an exhaustive data review, the team say they feel that the evidence is not conclusive and have decided not to take the matter further. The appeal was due to be heard in Paris next Tuesday.
The team added, however, that they plan to work together with the FIA and the other teams to further clarify what constitutes the 'safe release' of a car following a pit stop at the next team managers' meeting.
