Canadian Grand Prix draws record crowds 13 Jun 2005
Montreal always attracts a massive fan following, not just at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve but also in the city because of all the numerous activities. This year the prospect of another thrilling race in an unpredictable season, plus the return of Jacques Villeneuve, swelled the numbers still further.
On Thursday 30,000 went out to the Ile Notre Dame, with many of those enjoying the Formula One pit-lane walkabout. That was followed by 102,000 on Friday, 111,000 on Saturday and 121,000 on Sunday, giving an overall total for the four days of 334,000.
The Sunday figure beat the previous 2002 record of 117,000, and boosted the overall figure to a new high of 326,000.
