A busy Thursday at Indianapolis 16 Jun 2005
First practice may not begin until Friday, but there is plenty to keep Formula One fans happy at Indianapolis on Thursday, the opening day of the 2005 United States Grand Prix meeting.
For starters, there is the Formula One pit walkabout which will allow the public to get up close and personal with the cars, equipment and personnel from all ten teams. The walkabout takes place from 8am until noon and is open to anyone with a race day ticket.
At 9.30am world champion Michael Schumacher will participate in a public press conference along with Hiroshi Yasukawa, director of Bridgestone Motorsport. There will also be an ongoing Q&A session throughout the day, with countless Formula One stars from the past, present and, possibly, future.
Among the drivers taking part will be American legend and 1978 world champion Mario Andretti, along with his son Michael and grandson Marco. The USAs latest hope of Grand Prix greatness, Scott Speed, will be there, as will Indianapolis 500 winner-come BAR sporting director Gil de Ferran.
Other current Formula One drivers in the line-up include Tiago Monteiro, Jenson Button, Takuma Sato, Anthony Davidson, Ralf Schumacher, Jarno Trulli, Felipe Massa, Christian Klien, Christijan Albers, Patrick Friesacher and Mark Webber.
