FIA welcomes Michelin ticket gesture 29 Jun 2005
As the seven Michelin teams were appearing before the World Motor Sport Council on Wednesday morning, Formula One racing’s governing body, the FIA, issued a statement welcoming Michelin’s offer to refund the tickets of US Grand Prix goers.
However, the FIA also made it clear that it strongly contested the version of events at Indianapolis detailed by Michelin in its press release of June 28 (see earlier story), in which the tyre supplier suggested the FIA could have prevented its teams pulling out of the race.
Those teams are in Paris this morning defending themselves against a number of charges relating to their US withdrawal, including damaging the image of the sport. Mosley is due to hold a press conference later today, no earlier than 1500 local time (1300 GMT).
