Albers ready for home run in Minardi 14 Jul 2005
Rotterdam will thrill to the sights and sounds of Formula One next month when Dutch driver Christijan Albers demonstrates a Minardi in front of his home fans.
Albers will lap a specially-constructed street circuit as part of the citys free Maasside Monaco event on August 7 and the 26-year-old from Eindhoven said he couldnt wait to put on a show for his countrymen.
I have a lot of fans in the Netherlands, and for a lot of them it is unfortunately impossible for them to come over and support me at a Grand Prix, he told his official website. Well, then Ill come to them. Its a great opportunity for me to give my fans something back for all the support they have given me over the past months.
Albers, a former Dutch national kart champion, made his Formula One debut with Minardi at the start of this season. He scored his first world championship points at last months United States Grand Prix and hinted he had no plans to slow down anytime soon.
Ill ask my team to bring as many sets of tyres as possible, he said, because Im planning to leave a lot of rubber on the Rotterdam streets!
The Dutch have traditionally been big Formula One fans, thanks to drivers such as Jan Lammers and Jos Verstappen. The last Dutch Grand Prix took place at Zandvoort in 1985.
