Weather update - morning rain hits Istanbul 21 Aug 2005
Welcome to race day at the Istanbul Park circuit, venue for the inaugural Turkish Grand Prix.
Just when things seemed so settled, the Turkish weather pulled a fast one on Hermann Tilke's new track. Just prior to Sunday's GP2 encounter the skies darkened and then opened, and soaked the circuit.
However, after a gripping (or rather, gripless), race, which was won by series leader Heikki Kovalainen from Adam Carroll and Nico Rosberg, the weather improved and the forecast is now for warm and sunny conditions for the rest of the day.
The circuit is, of course, completely new. It measures 5.340 km, and features broad undulations and the same anti-clockwise direction as Imola and Interlagos.
The race will run over 58 laps (309.720 km) and will start at 1500 hrs local time which is three hours ahead of GMT.
