Williams confirm Pizzonia for Brazil 16 Sep 2005
Antonio Pizzonia will again stand in for Nick Heidfeld at next weekends Brazilian Grand Prix, the Williams team announced on Friday. Heidfeld, who missed the last two races through illness, fractured a shoulder blade last weekend in a cycling accident.
"Obviously I am very happy I've been given the opportunity to race again, particularly as Brazil is my home race, said Pizzonia. It will be very special for me to race in front of a home crowd so I can't wait. Interlagos is a great track, one which I really enjoy driving so I'm hoping to have a good weekend.
The bumps make it quite a tricky circuit and a unique one when it comes to set-up of the car. The weather can be unpredictable in Sao Paulo and I wouldn't be surprised if we had some rain this year. It was good for me to be in the car this week at Silverstone, where we tested for two days, so I now feel better prepared for the race."
Only time will tell whether Heidfeld has already driven his last race for Williams. The German driver announced on Friday that he is to join BMW for next season following their buyout of Sauber to create a new works team for 2006.
