Antonio Pizzonia will continue to compete for Williams in the final two races of 2005 after the team confirmed on Wednesday that Nick Heidfeld will not be returning to the cockpit.

Pizzonia was originally drafted at the Italian Grand Prix after Heidfeld pulled out with headaches. However, Heidfeld then injured his shoulder in a cycling accident and so Pizzonia kept the seat for the Belgian and Brazilian rounds.

“I am delighted to be racing for another two races, especially after last weekend at my home race when I was the innocent victim of a start line accident,” said Pizzonia. “The two tracks in Japan and China are real drivers’ circuits and I hope to be able to validate this vote of confidence from the team.”

“On the strength of his races for the team thus far this season, we know he will serve us well in the next two Grands Prix,” added team boss Frank Williams.

With Heidfeld bound for the new BMW works team next season, the move will boost Pizzonia’s hopes of winning a full-time race seat with Williams for 2006.
