Alonso triumph attracts record audience
The popularity of Formula One racing in Spain reached fever pitch over the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend, with record numbers tuning in to watch Fernando Alonso become world champion.
Over 10 million people watched Alonsos triumph on Spanish television channel Telecinco, and combined with a simultaneous broadcast on TV Catalunyas TV3/33 station, average audience share reached over 60 percent.
Those figures made the Brazilian Grand Prix the most watched sports event of 2005 in Spain, even exceeding audiences for the countrys international soccer fixtures.
