New Ferrari to face competition in Spain 25 Jan 2006
Ferraris rivals will get the chance to run alongside the new 248 F1 later this week after the Italian team opted to switch testing venues.
The new car was launched at Mugello on Tuesday, where Michael Schumacher commenced a test programme, putting in 44 laps in low temperatures to clock a best time of 1m 21.904s.
Ferrari had planned to continue at the Tuscan circuit, but based on forecasts of worsening weather conditions in the area, they will know switch to Barcelona, venue for this weeks multi-team test.
Commenting on his first impressions of the new car, Schumacher said: "It has already given positive results in the little testing that it has been possible to carry out here. Despite the fact that only a few laps were run, the car seemed well balanced and enjoyable to drive even though it is less powerful."
Ferrari and Schumacher will resume work with the new car on Thursday.
