FIA receive half of Turkish fine 18 Oct 2006

The FIA has accepted US$2.5 million from the organisers of the Turkish Grand Prix (MSO), which it says removes MSO’s liability in respect of the US$5 million fine handed out following August’s race. The outstanding sum is still owed by the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED).

TOSFED has appealed against the fine. A hearing will take place at the International Court of Appeal in Paris on Tuesday, November 7, with a decision expected on November 8.

The fine was imposed after irregularities during the podium ceremony at the 2006 Turkish Grand Prix. Mr Mehmet Ali Talat was invited to present the winner’s trophy and introduced as president of the Turkish Cypriot ‘state’, which is only recognised by Turkey.
