Sainz delighted with Renault home run 30 Oct 2006
Former world rally champion Carlos Sainz thrilled his home crowd on Sunday when he drove a Formula One car as part of the Renault World Series season finale in Barcelona.
Sainz had a brief private test with Renault at Silverstone last month to familiarize himself with the 2005 R25 machine, but this time the Spaniard got to perform in front of 80,000 of his countrymen at the Circuit de Catalunya.
The acceleration, the braking, the grip, everything is amazing in this car, Sainz told the Renault team. I have just been testing in Tunisia for the Dakar rally, so going from desert driving to a Formula One car is a pretty big change!
Sainz is no stranger to speed. As well as his rally exploits, he has also ridden a 500cc GP motorbike and been in a fighter plane. However, he insisted driving the R25 was something unique. Renault has given me one of the best experiences of my life, he added.
