Marco Holzer makes his debut for BMW Sauber
German teenager Marco Holzer got his first taste of Formula One power on Thursday when he completed 65 laps of Spains Valencia circuit for BMW Sauber. Holzers test drive was a reward for winning last years Formula BMW World Final in Bahrain.
This has been a unique experience, said Holzer. The cornering speeds are amazing, just like the braking forces. From one lap to the next it became more fun, and I felt more comfortable. I say only this to the competitors of this years World Final: push hard to win the race, because a Formula One test drive is an unforgettable experience.
The 18 year-old claimed his prize after beating off competition from the best drivers in the four international Formula BMW series. On Sunday, the Valencia circuit will hold this years World Final event where another 37 drivers will battle it out for the chance to test for the team next year.
Former Formula One driver Alessandro Zanardi is also due to test for BMW Sauber as part of the weekends events. Zanardi, who lost both his legs in a Champ car accident back in 2001, will drive a specially modified F1.06 on Saturday. The Italian completed a brief shakedown run on Thursday.
