The Toro Rosso team expect to run their new Ferrari V8-engined car for the first time in testing at the end of next month, driver Vitantonio Liuzzi has revealed to Formula1.com. Until then the team will continue with the restricted Cosworth V10 they raced in 2006.

“It is not possible at the moment to confirm a precise date, but we expect the new car and the new engine to be ready at the end of January,” said Liuzzi at this week’s first test of the winter in Barcelona, Spain.

Liuzzi, who scored the only point of Toro Rosso’s maiden season, insisted the new engine should bring major gains to what, in his hands, will be an all-Italian package: "The expectations are high. The name Ferrari is a guarantee of success and it would be a huge satisfaction to see an Italian team, with an Italian car powered by an Italian engine, making a big step forward together.”

Toro Rosso’s sister team, Red Bull Racing, ran Ferrari V8 engines in 2006. They will switch to Renault power for the new season.
