Clay Regazzoni killed in road crash

Former Grand Prix driver Clay Regazzoni has died in a road accident near Parma, Italy. Mr Regazzoni was 67.

Regazzoni made his Formula One debut for Ferrari, driving alongside Jacky Ickx in the 1970 Dutch Grand Prix. Finishing fourth in that first appearance, the Swiss driver went on to win his maiden victory just four races later at Monza.

He won a further four Grands Prix during an 11-year Formula One career, which ended in 1980 when he crashed his Ensign car heavily at Long Beach, sustaining severe spinal injuries.
