BMW Sauber confirmed on Thursday that former Jordan racer Timo Glock had been signed as the team’s number two test driver for the 2007 season. Glock, who won two GP2 races last season, will test alongside Sebastian Vettel, who was confirmed as the team’s reserve driver in October.

“We’ve known Timo for a long time already,” explains BMW Motorsport Director
Mario Theissen. “After all, he started out on his formula motor racing career in Formula BMW six years or so ago and won two titles. He’s since enjoyed success and gathered experience in various different formulas, including Formula 3, Formula One and the Champ Car series in the US. In 2006 he performed extremely impressively in the exciting GP2 series. He will assist us with our testing work. There are no plans to involve Timo on the Fridays before the races.”

The 24 year-old German driver, who completed four race drives for Jordan in 2004, made his debut for the team during November's Barcelona test. He also joined BMW Sauber race drivers Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld, at the test session held in Jerez earlier this month.

“I got to know the team during my two test sessions in Barcelona and Jerez and I’m really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the BMW Sauber F1.07 in 2007,” said Glock. “Driving a Formula One racing car is quite simply the greatest challenge you can have as a racing driver. Formula One has always been my goal.”

Next year, Glock will also compete in his second GP2 season, with the iSport team.
