Barcelona engine change for Villeneuve 11 May 2006
Jacques Villeneuves Spanish Grand Prix prospects have taken a hit before his weekend has even begun with news that he will be forced to drop ten places on the grid for Sundays race. The penalty follows the BMW Sauber teams decision to change his engine.
Villeneuve was due to race with the same V8 that powered him to eighth place in last weekends European Grand Prix. However, fears concerning the engines ability to survive another full meeting have prompted the team to make the precautionary switch.
It will be the second time this season that Villeneuve has fallen victim to an engine penalty. In Australia he had to start from 19th on the grid, but nevertheless went on to score a sixth-place finish, his best 2006 result so far.
