Del Monte begins Midland's Silverstone test 14 Jun 2006
The Midland team kicked off a three-day test at Silverstone on Tuesday with Tiago Monteiro and Fabrizio Del Monte at the wheel of the teams M16 machine.
Del Monte shook down their test chassis and conducted a series of control systems and aero tests in the morning. According to the team, he proved himself very competent during his first full circuit test for them in 2006, ahead of his scheduled outing as their third driver at the Hungarian Grand Prix later in the year.
"I was happy with my work today, said Del Monte, whose best lap from 67 was a 1m 26.050s. My times could have been better, but I wanted to drive well inside my abilities so as not to take any undue risks with the car. Now, I am looking forward to helping the team improve further when I drive for them on Friday in Hungary."
Race driver Monteiro took over the car for the afternoon session, but the teams planned tyre programme was disrupted by heavy showers at the British Grand Prix circuit. Instead they completed some wet set-up work.
"I was unfortunate with the weather today, that's for sure! said Monteiro. It's too bad the rain couldn't wait until after my session was over, but that's OK. We managed to make a couple of outings in the dry before running a short control systems programme in the wet, so the day was still reasonably productive."
Monteiro completed 20 laps, with a best time of 1m 23.540s.
