Welcome to race day at the French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours, the 11th round of the 2006 FIA Formula One World Championship and the start of the final European leg.

The weather today could have a critical effect on the outcome of the race, with Fernando Alonso convinced that Bridgestone has the edge over one lap in the hot conditions that prevailed yesterday, but that his Michelins will be better over the course of the race. The forecast is for around 34 degrees Celsius ambient temperature, which should mean a track temperature of at least 50.

The 4.411 kilometre (2.741 mile) circuit is largely unchanged. The 70-lap race will run over 308.586 kilometres (191.755 miles) and will start at 1400 hours local time (1200 GMT).
