Renault have announced they will participate as an interested party in the FIA Court of Appeal hearing relating to the legality of mass dampers, which will take place in Paris on Tuesday August 22.

The appeal concerns the decision made by stewards at last month’s German Grand Prix which deemed the use of the controversial system permissible. This decision was subsequently contested by the FIA who believe the dampers to contravene Formula One technical regulations.

Renault introduced the system in September 2005 and numerous other teams are thought have used similar devices this season. Every competitor in the 2006 FIA Formula One World Championship has been invited to participate in the hearing.

"The Renault F1 Team will attend the hearing and will put forward a case," explained Executive Director of Engineering, Pat Symonds. "It is not appropriate to comment on the technicalities of that case at this moment. However, we have every faith in the International Court of Appeal. We believe it is an unbiased final judgement, and we will respect its decision."

The outcome of the hearing is expected to be known on Wednesday August 23.
