Schumacher - Ferrari well prepared for Monza 01 Sep 2006
Title contender Michael Schumacher believes Ferrari are in strong shape heading into their home race in Italy next weekend. It follows a successful three-day test for the team at Monza this week.
Schumacher tested for two of those days, running for 53 laps on Wednesday and 89 on Thursday, and with team mate Felipe Massa comfortably setting the fastest time of the week - 0.8s quicker than Renaults best - the German is in confident mood.
"The tests are over and we're very happy, Schumacher told his official website. Car and engine were highly reliable and Luca Badoer completed the distance of a whole weekend on Tuesday and I did the same. I think we're very well prepared for the race here at Monza next week.
Schumacher heads into the Italian Grand Prix trailing championship leader Fernando Alonso by 12 points. However, he knows history at least is on his side. The former champion has won at Monza on four occasions, making him the most successful driver at the circuit. Alonsos best finish was a second place behind Juan Pablo Montoya last year.
