Super Aguri third driver Franck Montagny looks set to move to a similar role at Toyota for next season, it was revealed on Monday. Toyota’s current test driver line-up comprises Frenchman Olivier Panis and Brazilian Ricard Zonta.

Panis is retiring at the end of the year and Zonta is moving to Renault for next season, hence the Japanese squad are in need of a new recruit and say it “expects to reach an agreement soon for Franck Montagny to join as third and test driver.”

Assuming the deal goes ahead, Frenchman Montagny will bring with him a wealth of Formula One testing experience, thanks largely to his three seasons with Renault from 2003 to 2005. He has also made seven Grand Prix starts with Super Aguri.

Toyota say they are also looking promote a member of their young drivers programme to the testing team to work alongside Montagny.
