Super Aguri retain Yamamoto as test driver 02 Jan 2007
Sakon Yamamoto has been confirmed as Super Aguris second test driver. Yamamoto, who raced for the outfit during the latter part of the 2006 season, will work alongside race drivers Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson and recently appointed third driver Giedo van der Garde.
It is great news that I am able to stay in Formula One with Super Aguri in 2007 and would like to thank everyone who has supported me, especially Aguri-san, said Yamamoto. I will try to do my best in my new role and give the team good support from my time in the car next year.
The 24 year-old Formula Nippon graduate stepped into the role of third driver for Super Aguri last year after countryman Yuji Ide was dropped from the Japanese outfit. In July, Yamamoto took over from Franck Montagny to race for the team for the seven remaining events. Despite retiring from his first four appearances, Yamamoto enjoyed a memorable finish at his home Grand Prix in Japan, ending the race in 17th.
I am very happy that Sakon will remain a member of the Super Aguri family next season, explained team principal Aguri Suzuki. We will help him to secure a race seat in another category for 2007 and I am confident that his experience gained from Formula One racing this year will help him achieve this goal.
