Former drivers Aguri Suzuki, Martin Brundle, and Christian Danner were thrilled after getting back behind the wheel of a Formula One car at Silverstone on Monday. The trio completed several laps of the British Grand Prix circuit in a Super Aguri SA06, during a special event held by the Japanese team.

“Our event today was really great fun!” explained Suzuki, Super Aguri’s team principal. “It has been 13 years since I last drove at Silverstone and I enjoyed it very much. I realised, however, that racing with this kind of car was not for me anymore and I am happy to be a team principal. My job now is to encourage young people to race and also reach the pinnacle of motorsport.”

Fellow veterans Brundle and Danner were invited to join Suzuki in their current roles as race commentators on British and German television and both were delighted with the chance to film their exploits in the SA06, the car that took Takuma Sato to tenth place in last year’s Brazilian Grand Prix.

“We’re very appreciative of the great opportunity to test an F1 car on the full Grand Prix circuit at Silverstone,” said Brundle. “We were able to obtain some very good TV pictures and sound, although I have lost my voice from shouting so hard in the cockpit. I was able to have four or five laps for myself as well to enjoy the car and I must say that I was impressed by the SA06 car and package - I can fully understand why Taku went so well in Brazil.”

Danner added: “I feel privileged that I was allowed to drive Aguri’s car and I had a lot of fun out there! I gradually got used to the car lap by lap and had a great time with the team today.”
