Ho-Pin Tung to star for BMW Sauber in China 02 Oct 2007
Local hero Ho-Pin Tung will be the star attraction at BMW Saubers Pit-Lane Park at this weekends Chinese Grand Prix. Tung, who in 2003 became the first Chinese driver to test a Formula One car, will wow the crowds along a special 90-metre section of track at the Shanghai circuit.
I can hardly wait to get back behind the wheel of a Formula One car, explained the 24-year-old. When BMW granted me my first test drive four years ago, I had absolutely no doubt that I wanted to get into Formula One. I'm working very hard to achieve that goal, but in the meantime I'm looking forward to giving my compatriots an experience of the BMW Sauber F1 Team car right up close. I'm sure the Pit-Lane Park will be a unique event not just for me but for all those who visit it.
Tung was invited to test for the then BMW-engined Williams team at Jerez back in December 2003, after winning the Formula BMW Asia championship. He won last years German Formula Three title and this season has been competing in the GP2 series.
The Chinese Grand Prix will mark the final outing for BMW Saubers Pit-Lane Park this season. The popular attraction, which boasts 14 replica garages, will open from 1000 hours local time on Thursday, October 5 to Saturday, October 7. Race drivers Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica, and team principal Mario Theissen are all expected to attend.
