Raikkonen edges Alonso in final practice 07 Jul 2007
Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso slugged it out for fastest time in the final practice session at Silverstone this morning, the honour eventually going to the Ferrari driver by just 0.169s.
The Finn lapped in 1m 19.751s, with the Spaniard hot on his heels on 1m 19.920s for McLaren. Despite moments at Stowe and Copse, Felipe Massa was close to them on 1m 19.969s in third place for Ferrari.
McLarens Lewis Hamilton was fourth on 1m 20.344s. His final run, on low fuel, was frustrated when the Williams of Alex Wurz went off the road at Becketts.
Nico Rosberg remains close to the front in fifth place with 1m 20.666s for Williams, and Ralf Schumacher continued Toyotas weekend form with sixth best lap of 1m 20.770s. After a frustrating day yesterday, Tonio Liuzzi got into the ballpark for Toro Rosso with 1m 20.876s.
Renaults Heikki Kovalainen and BMW Saubers Nick Heidfeld shared eighth fastest lap, in 1m 20.882s, and Anthony Davidson once again completed the top 10 for Super Aguri in 1m 20.915s.
Giancarlo Fisichella was the final runner below 1m 21s, taking his Renault round in 1m 20.983s.
Mark Webber and Scott Speed were close for Red Bull and Toro Rosso, in 12th and 13th places in 1m 21.002s and 1m 21.039s respectively, then came Hondas Rubens Barrichello (1m 21.140s), Wurz (1m 21.148s), BMW Saubers Robert Kubica (1m 21.156s), Toyotas Jarno Trulli (1m 21.321s), Red Bulls David Coulthard (1m 21.343s), Jenson Button (back in harness for Honda with 1m 21.583s) and Super Aguris Takuma Sato (1m 21.745s).
Finally, Christijan Albers continued to fly Spykers flag just ahead of team mate Adrian Sutil. The Dutchman lapped in 1m 22.101s, the German in 1m 22.180s after another off-track moment at Copse.
The weather, incidentally, was fine, with no sign of rain and ambient temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius. The conditions look set to remain for qualifying this afternoon.
