Renault roadshow wows Johannesburg 30 Jul 2007
Renaults Giancarlo Fisichella and test driver Nelson Piquet Jr took to the streets of Johannesburg on Sunday for the South African leg of the French teams roadshow programme. The event, which took place on a custom-built temporary circuit in the citys Sandton district, attracted over 100,000 spectators.
Fisichella and Piquet took turns at the wheel of an R26, entertaining the crowds with tricks including doughnuts and burnouts. Those attending also enjoyed a parade of historic Renault vehicles.
The crowd has been fantastic today, you can tell they have really enjoyed seeing an F1 car in action! said Fisichella. This is my first visit to South Africa, and it has been a truly memorable experience.
Piquet added: The team's roadshow programme is a fantastic way to let the public get closer to Formula One, and this weekend has shown once again how much people appreciate that approach. The welcome here in Johannesburg has been fantastic, and I think the people enjoyed the show. Mission accomplished!
The next Renault roadshow will take place in Rotterdam, as part of the Bavaria City Racing event to be held on August 17-18. Piquet will again be on duty for the team, along with Heikki Kovalainen.
