Young Italian drivers to test for Ferrari 22 Oct 2008
Ferrari have announced they plan to hold a special day of testing next month, aimed at evaluating young Italian motor racing talent. Mirko Bortolotti, Edoardo Piscopo and Salvatore Cicatelli, the top three finishers in this years Italian Formula Three Series, will each get a chance to drive a Formula One car at Ferraris Fiorano circuit.
The day, devised along with Italian motorsport's governing body, the ACI-CSAI, will see the trio of young hopefuls sample the F2008 and work with engineers from the Italian outfits race team.
For every generation, Scuderia Ferrari is a symbol for all those who have a passion for racing, said Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo. Looking to the youngsters and to the future, I hope this initiative can contribute to the development of young drivers and also to the regeneration of motor sport in our country."
ACI-CSAI President, Gino Macaluso, added: "One of the stated duties of the Federation is the development of this sport in Italy, and that includes promoting young drivers. I am grateful to Ferrari and to Luca di Montezemolo for having shown such enthusiasm in offering the great opportunity to three promising hopes of Italian motor sport not only to realize their dream of driving a Ferrari Formula One car, but also of experiencing at first hand what it is to work with a team that is the quintessential expression of motor racing at world level."
The special test day will take place on November 26.
