Bridgestone e-reporter to celebrate fifth anniversary in Barcelona 23 Apr 2008
This year marks the fifth anniversary of Bridgestones e-reporter competition for aspiring motorsport journalists. To celebrate, the Formula One and GP2 tyre supplier will be taking the nine 2008 finalists to this weekends Spanish Grand Prix and the preceding official GP2 Series launch event.
The growing popularity of the e-reporter competition, for students aged 18-30, has been shown by a 50 percent increase in entries this year compared with 2007, entrants also representing a wider range of European countries than ever before.
Each of the nine finalists will be given the opportunity to attend a forthcoming Grand Prix weekend and report on the GP2 action for the Bridgestone e-reporter website. Since GP2s inception in 2004, the Formula One support series has continued to grow in stature, producing stars such as Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.
Entrants for this years e-reporter competition were asked to demonstrate their ability to write both a newsworthy story and topical interview questions. The high standard of entries from students writing in English as their second language was highlighted by the judges, the judging panel including high-profile international journalists.
Bridgestone continues to invest in education and, through the e-reporter programme, provides students with invaluable journalistic experience helping them to build a career for the future, commented Gerry Duffy, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Bridgestone Europe. Bridgestone wish the best of luck to all the finalists attending GP2 events through out the season.
The overall winner of the 2008 e-reporter contest, due to be selected in late September, will continue their work on Bridgestone-backed events and will be offered work experience as part of the competition prize.
