Davidson makes testing return with Honda
Anthony Davidson returned to a Formula One cockpit on Thursday for the first time since the demise of Super Aguri. Davidson is testing for Honda at this week’s Spanish test at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya.
Davidson’s 2008 race season came to an unexpected halt following April’s Spanish Grand Prix, when Super Aguri went into administration. At the time, the Englishman said he had ‘unfinished business’ in Formula One, insisting he was not giving up on a career in motorsport’s top flight.
Honda’s relationship with Davidson goes back to 2001, his first season as test driver with BAR, to whom the Japanese company supplied engines before taking over the team for the 2006 season. He remained an official tester throughout that period, before landing a full-time race seat with the Honda-powered Super Aguri squad in 2007.
Honda have made no official comment on Davidson’s testing return, but the move will doubtless spark media speculation over whether the team’s current race line-up of Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello will remain unchanged for 2009.
